Setting up MobileMe to use a personal domain name
Support
You can set up your MobileMe account to use a personal domain name, so that the URL to any iWeb ’08 website that you publish to MobileMe is easy to remember. (Your personal domain is not used for your Gallery.)
NOTICE: If you set up your MobileMe account to use a personal domain name before the change from .Mac to MobileMe, your personal domain will continue to work as it did before your new MobileMe member name took effect. However, you can also choose to change the cname record on your registrar’s site, as described below.
To set up MobileMe to use a personal domain name:
If you haven’t already registered a domain name, visit an accredited domain name registrar on the Internet and register the personal domain name you want to use.
For information about registering a domain name, search the Internet for “domain name registrars.”
Point your personal domain to MobileMe by going to your domain name registrar’s domain name service (DNS) management area, creating a “www” CNAME record, and then pointing it to “web.me.com” or “web.me.com.” (including the period) in the address field.
Whether you need to add the period at the end of the address depends on your registrar. For more specific instructions about creating a cname record, contact your domain name registrar.
If you’re not already logged in to MobileMe, go to
http://www.me.com, log in, and then click the Account button in the toolbar at the top of the window.
Click Personal Domain in the sidebar (on the left).
Click Add Domain.
Enter your domain name. Be sure to type the entire domain name (including the extension, such as .com, .net) that you’ve registered.
Click Continue, and then click Done.
You may need to wait up to 48 hours for your domain name to take effect and for the link to your iWeb ’08 websites to work. After 48 hours, you’ll be able to visit your iWeb ’08 websites at the new personal domain URL.
