Time Capsule and DNA Welho cable connection

Hi!

Once again, sorry for writing in English in this forum, but you do speak the most difficult language in the world (I'm working on it).

I recently signed up for the DNA Welho 110M internet connection, and it's the first time I've come across a cable modem. I'm planning on buying a 2TB Time Capsule now that the 802.11ac has finally arrived (with the layout of my flat, wireless is the only option). Now I'm just curious how to go about it. I've tried to understand earlier posts on the subject here but have a hard time making sense of what Google translate spits out.

Right now I'm hooked up to a Cisco epc3825 cable modem and it works flawlessly, both wi-fi (802.11n) and connected to my macs by ethernet (butt-ugly, though, but that's another story). If I've understood correctly – adding a time capsule with faster wi-fi to the mix doesn't mean that I can completely get rid of the Cisco modem? Is there any way to connect the cable straight to the TC, or do I still have to have the cable connected to the Cisco, and then connect the Cisco to the TC? And if the latter is the case, do I connect the two with a normal ethernet cable? Are there any problems that are likely to pop up, that a computer novice like me will stumble on? Could I get "something" smaller to replace the Cisco as a middleman?

And a second question. I'd love to get rid of the Cisco thing. But if it turns out I need to keep it, I will need to get a longer cable for it than the one included in the box (from the wall plug to the modem, that is). What is this cable I'm holding in my hand? Is it just a pimped out RF cable? And what would be the proper Finnish word to use for it when asking in the shop for a longer one?

I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. And cheers to you all for being so supportive on this forum (not something to take for granted when it comes to experts helping newbies).

Hi,

You still need the cable modem for sure, you can't connect cable streight to TC. Max cable lenght from wall socket to cable modem is 2 meters, that's at least what welho dna is suggesting. Cable modem and TC you need to connect with standard ethernet cable. Make sure that the cable modem has gigabit ethernet socket to get best out of the faster wifi.

I have a DNA Welho connection with cisco ecp3000 (no wifi) connect to TC with ethernet (gigabit). I use TC as my wifi access point and router (router mode, dhcp and nat).

So if you will keep your cisco I think you need to set it up as bridge and let TC to handle dhcp and nat. Also you need to disable wifi on cisco. Another way is to replace your cisco with smaller standard modem if you prefer that. I think you can get those also from dna shop.

Sorry for late reply. Pretty much as I expected, cheers for confirming my "fears". I see in Tori.fi that ppl are selling the modem you're mentioning (cisco ecp3000) second hand for some 30 euros. Since it seems to be working for you, maybe I take the easy way out and go for one of them as well.

If I have understood correctly you have to register your cable modem if it's not bought from DNA in Sanomatalo store. It's not gonna work before that.
