I just had both of my d2 drives fail within a month of each other. One was 20 months out of warranty and the other only 2 months. They wouldn't power up and the power supply indicator light was blinking instead of staying on steady. I disassembled the older drive and determined that the little power supply circuit board was malfunctioning. The hard drive was fine. Since my newer d2 exhibited the same symptom I assumed that it also had a power supply circuit board malfunction. I next called LaCie's tech support hoping that they would do good on at least the newer drive seeing that it was their bridge circuitry at fault and not the hard drive itself. They didn't care at all. Out of warranty is out of warranty. They did tell me to buy an external case and transplant the hard drive into there. I told them that my drives died because of their under-engineered circuit board and a 14-month longevity for a drive is totally unacceptable. I would never buy LaCie again and warn others to think twice before spending good money on these drives.
On a brighter note, I did fix the power supply boards on both of these drives. The faulty part ended up being a diode (part no. P6KE15A which turns out to be a silicon avalanche diode). I didn't have any of these specific diodes on hand and replaced it with a 1N4003 diode (Radio Shack). I hooked things back up and now everything is working fine. My next task is to get a higher rated replacement for the original diode.
I did call LaCie back a second time telling them of my discovery of the bad diode. They were not interested at all. Customer care does not seem to be their strong point either.

toinen:
My LaCie d2 120 GB external HDD suddenly quit working a few weeks ago after previously showing a few sporadic malfunctions; thus, I decided to open the case seeking to locate the cause of the failure as it was out of warranty and I didn't have anything to lose by doing it. The power supply LED was off whilst connected to the drive instead of being a steady green, but kept blinking when disconnected from it. After a little bit of troubleshooting, I isolated the problem to a shorted P6KE15A diode (which happens to be a TVS 15 V, 600 W PPP unidirectional semiconductor) on the "D2CONTROL" circuit board, I substituted it for a 1N6275A since I couldn't find the exact replacement part, and everything seems to be back to normal now. I expect the drive to last a long time unless something was damaged inside the power supply due to the overload and the problem surfaces later on. The drive is about five years old and had a fair amount of use, so I can't really complain
