PC DVD RW and MAC?

Hi, i am getting a G5 in a few weeks, but for some reason it has a 4x superdrive, can i put a PC DVDRW like a NEC 3500, or a LG or something in it? I mean will i be able to burn DVDRs from say, TOAST still? i dont need the DUAL LAYER to work , yet.. but i would like to have a faster DVDR..

To my knowledge the new G5 has an 8x Superdrive?

You can put a "non Apple Supported" drive into the G5 and the use Patchburn II to bless the new drive. This way you will be able to boot from the drive. If not, it will still work with Toast.

Pioneer DVR-A08/108 is _the_ superdrive used in new G5's. There's full system-wide support for these.

Mikko, where did you get the information? I think that the issue is not clear. - Is it possible to get the support for a MDD? Regards, Tuomas

I think the Pioneer DVR-A08/108 will work in all Macs with 10.3 installed with no need to install additional software. Install any of the newer Pioneer Superdrives in the MDD and it will be fully supported by the OS.

My mistake... the currently used one is DVR-A07/107. 108 has only been speculated yet, but will probably be added to supported list later on.
